Parent Participation
Parents are an integral part of the learning community at the Preschool and a key factor in children’s success both during their preschool years and in the future. As partners in the learning process, parents experience the curriculum not only through their children’s eyes but also as active contributors.
Parents are always welcome to visit and volunteer in the classroom. Classroom visits provide parents an opportunity to observe their children in a group and share their special talents and ideas in the classroom. One or more parents from each class will serve as a room resource parent to act as a liaison between the teachers and the rest of the parents in organizing class events and other tasks to assist the teachers.
The Preschool strives to keep parents informed of its events and activities. The Peachtree Preschooler is published monthly and contains news about community events, articles on early childhood development, classroom profiles, and other information of interest. Class web pages provide families with a snapshot of daily activities at the Preschool. Additionally, two parent/teacher conversations are scheduled each school year. Parents may request a conversation with the classroom teachers at any time. The Preschool also offers monthly coffee chats and parent seminars.
The Parents’ Council is a volunteer organization sponsoring many annual events such as Fall Parent Parties, Pumpkin Patch, Springtime at Peachtree Gala, Peachtree Family Festival, Parent Enrichment Seminars, and community outreach projects. It also coordinates numerous special projects during the year to assist the Preschool staff and administration. All parents are welcome to join the Parents’ Council!
